Generally staircases or stairs are overlooked when you plan your home. But, in vastu shastra stairs are one of the most important part of the house.
Studies have shown that a stair which does not comply with vastu principles leads to frequent accidents, depression, neurological disorders and loss of wealth. On the other hand, vastu compliant stairs attract positive energy, prosperity, and health benefits.
Here Are Some Important Vastu Tips For Stairs:
1- Staircase can be constructed in the west and south direction (inside the house) according to vastu.
2- You can construct an external staircase in the Southwest (SW) and East-Southeast (ESE) direction.
3- North-Northwest (NNW) is a suitable direction to construct the staircase inside the house as well as outside the house.
4- All staircases must be built in such a way that the person climbing them moves from north to south or east to west direction.
5- A staircase should descend from the south to the north and west to the east direction.
6- It is advised to construct doors at the beginning and end of the staircase.
7- Keep the colors of stairs light and soothing.
8- Stairs should always turn clockwise as you go up.
9- Number of steps must be odd. In other words, make it sure that the number of risers when divided by 3 leaves 2 as the remainder. For instance 5, 11, 17, 19 steps are good.
10- Keep small items under the staircase for the optimum use of that space.
Things You Must Avoid While Constructing The Staircase-
1- Construction of the staircase in the Northeast direction is strictly prohibited in vastu shastra.
2- Stairs in Brahmasthan (center of the house) is completely forbidden. It will bring disastrous results for the residents.
3- East and North direction should also be avoided for the construction of stairs.
4- Make sure that staircase going to the upper floor must never be the same stairs that go to the basement. In other words, do not use a common staircase for upper floor and basement. There should be separate stairs for going upstairs and basement.
5- Stairs must not end or start from any room (e.g. kitchen, bedroom, Pooja room).
6- There is always some space left beneath the staircase. Avoid rooms such as Kitchen, Pooja room, bathroom etc. to be constructed under the staircase. This space should only be used for the purpose of storage room.
7- As per vastu, the cash locker under the staircase is not allowed.
8- The number of steps in a staircase must always have an odd number and never end with a zero (e.g. 10, 20, and 30).
9- A staircase encircling the building will lead to adverse and disastrous results.
10- According to the rules of vastu shastra broken stairs must be repaired instantly as it can lead to accidents and several other problems.
11- Although you can make staircase in the Southeast and Northwest direction, but it may have negative effects children’s health.
12- Spiral stairs are not recommended as per vastu as they have the ability to cause bad health.
A staircase located according to vastu principles produces positive results for the residents. However, it will be better to consult a vastu expert for determining the exact direction for the vastu compliant stairs.
